Violetta Rand: Creating the perfect writing space…

posted in: Uncategorized | 7

Next month marks my three year anniversary as a professional writer. And since I’ve started my career, instead of using the perfectly functional office I have downstairs (its a third bedroom), I camped out on the end of the dining room table and haven’t moved since (meaning my computer). Why, you might ask? I’m blessed with the ability to write anywhere, but the idea of locking myself in a designated area where I can’t interact with my pets or look out the big picture windows that dominate the east side of my house turned me off.

I need to be a happy writer.

My husband reclaimed the dining room this weekend. This is the time of year when we entertain the most, so lugging my computer and other writer’s necessities out of the room is an inconvenience.

Instead of moving to the downstairs dungeon, I got creative and shuffled some furniture around (and donated a few things to the Salvation Army) and came up with the perfect work space. I purchased a petite dining table and a comfortable chair first. Then visited an office supply store for all the accessories to make my new space feel like an office.

The results?

Not only am I positioned in front of the windows I love with a view of the woods and mountains, once winter comes, the fireplace is just to my right. See where this is going? Toasty fire, glass of wine, my latest WIP… Boom, I’m in writer’s heaven.

I encourage all creative people to find the right spot that inspires your art. Create your oasis.

My friends and family won’t mind seeing my little corner when they walk upstairs. And as for the unused office/third bedroom … well, I need an extra closet.Ā  šŸ™‚

My writing space can be almost anywhere, but mostly it’s at the same desk where I do my day job. (I work from home.) It’s a total mess, but fortunately when I’m writing, I’m in a different world and don’t notice the chaos!

I love your new space, Violetta! Unfortunately, I am the opposite. I need to be where it’s quiet and where I can play my music so I prefer to have my own room as my writing haven.

I love your new diggs!! I no longer have a writing space (temporary living situation) and I miss it! I’m the new house I’ll have an office in the basement – it has a big window though so I don’t fee subterranean.
