Victoria Does Vegas!

Novel Writing is often a solitary and sometimes lonely endeavor. Since I have become a full time writer, most of my social interaction has been limited to online exchanges, which is certainly a mixed blessing. While I have been able to “cyber-meet” hundreds of people who might not otherwise have ever crossed my path, there is still no substitute for sharing a coffee, a laugh, and a real hug with a gal pal. The opportunity to meet and re-connect with my sisters in romance was what I most looked forward to in attending last week’s Romance Novel Convention.

It was fantastic to spend time with the wonderful staff of IND’Tale Magazine. I LOVE these ladies who have done so very much to support indie and small press authors. Another highlight for me was finally meeting the faces and creative geniuses behind Period Images, my favorite stock image site. Coincidentally, their cover models Jax Turyna and Nick Corrao were on both of my RONE nominated covers!

Hubby and I arrived a day early as I wanted a chance to explore some places that will be featured in my Las Vegas set Hotel Rodeo series (coming in 2016 from Kensington). One of our “research” stops was South Point, a real hotel rodeo on the south end of Las Vegas strip. This place is a favorite with the National Finals Rodeo crowd as it has a full size arena/hippodrome. After lunch at South Point, we headed to our hotel, the beautiful Monte Carlo in the center of the strip. That night we had dinner at Carne Vino in the Palazzo, and then went to see Criss Angel.

Here are some more highlights from my week in “Fabulous Las Vegas.” Thursday night was the costume ball…

Fun on Freemont Street…

Hubby and I took one day off just to play. We ate brunch in ‘Paris’, window shopped on the strip, and then bought tickets for the High Roller, the new 550 foot observation wheel. (This was no small feat for me as I am terrified of heights).

The climax of the entire convention was IND’ Tale Magazine’s RONE Awards. It was a thrill to be surrounded by so many friends and talented authors. I was elated when my good friends Calico Daniels (sadly not present) and Suzan Tisdale won awards for Best Novella and Best Medieval Historical respectively.

I was shocked and elated the moment Treacherous Temptations was announced as the winner for Best Historical Post Medieval novel.  This was a moment in my life that I will always treasure and I feel doubly blessed to have had such wonderful friends to celebrate with.
