Saying so long, but not goodbye ~ Sandra Owens

Cat - computerA little over a year ago, there was an email in my inbox from Victoria Vane inviting me to join her and some other fabulous authors in creating a new blog called Embracing Romance. I was surprised she even knew of me and honored by the invitation.

It’s been a great year getting to know my sister Embracing Romance authors and writing some fun—and a few sad—posts. This will be my last one, though. I have turned in my resignation (is that what you say when you leave a blog?), as my life is about to take a drastic change.

Cat - let me inMy husband retires next month, and after years of having Monday through Friday to myself, I will suddenly have him home every day. I’m happy for him, he deserves this time in his life, but (God forbid) he likes to talk to me. Yeah, I know, just crazy. I’m used to hours of solitude to write, and he’s like a cat…doesn’t like to be ignored. The other day, he came home early and stood at my office door talking. I was trying to finish up a proposal I needed to get to my agent, and I told him to go away (well, I said it nicer than that). Not five minutes later, I started getting emails from him from the living room. See what I mean about being like a cat?

Country cottage motorhomeThat’s not exactly the reason I’m leaving Embracing Romance. Our dream has always been to travel when Jim retires, and working toward that goal, we bought a motorhome a few years ago. For at least the next two years, we will be on the road traveling this beautiful country of ours. I won’t always have Internet, so that would make me unreliable to the blog. Also, I will still be writing, and since we plan to do a lot of sightseeing, I’m thinking it will be all I can do to keep up with my deadlines.

I don’t want to say goodbye because I’m hoping I’ll be invited back to do an occasional guest post, thus I’m saying so long for now.

Cat - Goodbye

I am both sad to leave here and all of you, while at the same time looking forward to a whole new adventure. Thank you so much, Vicki, for offering me the opportunity to spend time with you and all the Embracing Romance authors this past year. I love you all.

I haven’t had a great deal of success training my retired DH, but all the best! I’ve enjoyed your company at Embracing Romance.Hope to still see you on FB.

    • Sandra Owens

Oh, I was hoping you could give me tips, Maggi. 🙂 You’ll definitely see me on FB.

Sorry to see you go, Sandra, but please, enjoy your travels and your husband’s retirement. BTW, I have a cat-husband too.

How exciting to be able to travel! We’ll miss you, but I’m looking forward to some fabulous guest posts from you. Oh, and good luck with the husband training. Please share any tips that work. 😉

I’ll miss you and everyone, too, Ally. I’m trying to talk him into starting a travel blog, hoping that will keep him busy.

Husband’s retirement is an adjustment, but you’re up to the task! And traveling for the next 2 years, that’s an adventure! I’m definitely envious of the journey, if not the cramped quarters. So long is not good-bye! Well put. Enjoy!

    • Sandra Owens

Jacie, from all the traveling you’ve been doing, I think you could give me tips. 🙂

I feel your pain, Sandra. My hubby drives me crazy on his days off. 🙂 I hope you guys enjoy travelling. I’m sure you’ll update us now and then,

    • Sandra Owens

Thanks, Angelina. We might even get to Alaska one day!

  8. Barbara Monajem

We will miss you. Sniff. But traveling is wonderful, and maybe you can write while your dh drives?? I get more writing done on road trips than any other time.

    • Sandra Owens

I’ll miss you all, too! I can write while hubby drives. 🙂

  9. Barbara Monajem

You should definitely go to Alaska — and drive through beautiful British Columbia (where I come from originally) on the way. 🙂

    • Sandra Owens

Jim wants to do one of those Alaskan river cruises where you drive the motorhome onto the ship, or barge, or whatever it is. Looks like fun.

Awww Those kitty pictures are just too adorable. And your husband is a OK. LOL Doesn’t women want their husbands to talk to them?

Anyways, have a great trip out in the wilderness. You and your husband deserve the long retirement. He may even bring ideas for your next books on the road. 🙂

    • Sandra Owens

Lol, ki, don’t encourage him. He already tells everyone that not only is he my inspiration, but he models my covers. I’m a sucker for kitty pictures.

  11. Glenda

I’ll miss your posts! I bet you will get lots of inspiration for stories during your travels – although you may need to get creative trying to find time to write them. (Does your hubby do any writing? Maybe you could make a writing team? 😉 )

    • Sandra Owens

And I’ll miss writing them, Glenda. I’m trying to convince hubby to start a travel blog so he will want to make writing time, too! 🙂

I’m sure I’ll still see your posts on Facebook, but I will miss your ER interviews! Have a great time traveling. Maybe I’ll see you on the road one day (or an RV park).

    • Sandra Owens

You will still see me around, Jess. Wouldn’t it be funny if we met up in an RV park somewhere! 🙂
