Joining the Fold

Hugs & hello to the readers of Embracing Romance! I’m delighted to be joining the cadre of fabulous authors that make up this blog and want to share a bit about myself and my writing journey with you.

I’m Lauren Linwood, author of historical romances and romantic suspense. I grew up inventing stories for my Chatty Kathy and Suzy Smart dolls and progressed to creating characters for my friends to portray as I took on the role of writer, director, and producer every time we gathered to play after school and on the weekends. I became fascinated with history and read every biography in my elementary school’s library, from Cleopatra and Winston Churchill to Elvis Presley and Clara Barton.

I decided to teach history by day and write by night—a great plan until I went home and had parents to call, lesson plans to write, and papers to grade. Then marriage and my daughter followed, and I put my dreams of writing on hold. Fast-forward many years to when I decided the laundry and grading papers could wait while I stole a few hours every weekend to return to my first love of telling the stories of the people I heard in my head. Thus, my writing career was born, helped by a supportive family who gave me peace & quiet in order to write.

Though I love reading all genres, my first love is romance. Combine that with my history background, and I began creating characters and storylines for my two favorite eras—medieval times and the American Old West. Who doesn’t want to read about dashing knights and rock-solid cowboys? For fun, I even throw in a few serial killers and venture into romantic suspense territory for a change of pace every now and then. The schoolgirl geek in me totally enjoys the research that goes into my historical romances. It’s fun finding that balance of slipping in historical details to add the right amount of verisimilitude to my story without clobbering the reader over the head with too much of what people wore, ate, and did.

I love to walk every morning because that’s when I get some of my best plotting done. I have eclectic taste in music, movies, and TV (yes, I love everything from Downton Abbey to Game of Thrones). I never met a piece of dark chocolate that did not call my name, nor have I ever turned down a glass of red wine or piece of bread smeared with butter. I enjoy watching sporting events, traveling, and even though I’ll never be a domestic goddess, I never miss Fixer Upper or MasterChef.

Scroll over to my new Embracing Romance author page, and you can read a bit about my nine published novels. Four are western historicals, three are medieval historicals, and two are romantic suspense novels.

I’m also pleased to share with you that I’m venturing into writing my first series in 2016. I adore reading series, so I thought it was about time to write one! The first three in the Knights of Valor series will be Word of Honor, Marked by Honor, and Code of Honor. All three will be released in 2016, with three more planned for 2017. I can’t wait to introduce you to the honorable knights and remarkable women who populate this series.

Thanks again to the lovely women of Embracing Romance who have welcomed me into the fold. I look forward to interacting with them and all of the readers I will encounter here. Happy Reading! And as a thanks, one luck commenter will be randomly chosen to win a copy of his or her choice of one of my ebooks.

As a child, Lauren Linwood gathered her neighborhood friends together and made up stories for them to act out, her first venture into creating memorable characters. Following her passion for history and love of learning, she became a teacher who began writing on the side to maintain her sanity in a sea of teenage hormones. Lauren’s historical novels focus on two of her favorite eras—medieval times and the American Old West. History is the backdrop that places her characters in extraordinary circumstances, where their intense desire and yearning for one another grows into the treasured gift of love. She also writes romantic suspense, where modern heroes and heroines unite to defeat a strong antagonist and discover a deep, abiding love during their journey. Lauren, a native Texan, lives in a Dallas suburb with her family. An avid reader, moviegoer, and sports fan, she manages stress by alternating yoga with five mile walks. She is thinking about starting a support group for House Hunters addicts—as soon as she finishes her next piece of dark chocolate.
