Maire Claremont

USATODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR, Eva Devon, was raised on literary fiction, but quite accidentally and thankfully, she was introduced to romance one Christmas by Johanna Lindsey’s Mallory novella, The Present. A romance addict was born. She devoured every single Lindsey novel within a few months and moved on to contemporary and paranormal with gusto. Now, she loves to write her own roguish dukes, alpha males and the heroines who tame them. She loves to hear from her readers. So please pen her a note! evadevonauthor@gmail.com

ER: Welcome to Embracing Romance, Eva. To start us off, what is the first thing you would like us to know about you?

Eva: I love to travel! I used to travel a lot, but now I use my books to take me wherever and WHENEVER I want.

ER: You are a USA Today bestselling author. Congratulations on that. What was your first reaction when you found out?

Eva: Thank you!!! Oh wow! I was completely over the moon and stunned. It’s the sort of thing that every unpublished and then published author dreams about. There may have been screaming. Just a bit.

ER: You have said that you were raised on literary fiction. How did you discover romance?

Eva: My mom of all things! She didn’t read romance at all. She picked up Johanna Lindsey’s The Present for me for Christmas. The cover was very plain and I don’t think she realized what she was buying. She must have been in a rush because romance was supported in our house. I loved to read and I sat down Christmas night to start it. I devoured it and was at Barnes and Noble secretly buying books 3 times a week!

ER: What two things would surprise us the most about you?

Eva: I’m all about the fantasy! While I think research is important, I throw whatever doesn’t fit my dream world out. For instance, I ignore the whole slogging jug after jug of water up for a bath or the fact that men used the chamberpot in the dining room behind a screen! I give these things a miss in my books.

ER: Are you a plotter, a panster, or something in-between? Can you tell us a little about your writing day?

Eva: Something in-between. My stories always start with a line or scene in my head. That’s it. However, as I go, I start envisioning future scenes. However, I do get stumped which is the panster part of me.

ER: Your first books were published under Maire Claremont, but recently you’ve begun to publish under Eva Devon. Why the change?

Eva: Well, I LOVED writing my Maire Claremont books. I was even offered to write another two by Penguin! The simple truth is that while the Mad Passion books were very loved and given great reviews, they weren’t as commercially successful as I needed them to be. Writing is my job since I’m at homes with my son. So, I decided to dust off a Regency I had written before the Maire Claremont books, Once Upon A Duke. It had been turned down by twenty plus agents. The book has 40 reviews on Amazon and has an average of 4 stars. I’m so happy that people love my funny side and those stories enable me to work from home! And I also can stay in a fun, light world all the time.

ER: What’s next for Eva Devon, and would you be willing to share a little about your works in progress or an upcoming book?

Eva: I’ve got a lot going on. I just released the first part in a brand new contemporary serial called Dirty Beautiful Rich. It’s a bit angsty and features an exceptionally rich, tortured Irish hero and a heroine who’s run out of luck. My next historical releases Feb 12th! Wish Upon a Duke is the 3rd book in The Dukes’ Club series and features the fabulously naughty Imogen Cavendish and the very proper Duke of Blackburn. They were so much fun to write!

Thank you for having me!

Question for readers: Are you all about a oh so proper duke or a naughty rogue? Why?

Eva Devon_Dirty Beautiful Rich—Part One

Part Two:

A job offer from the sexiest man Julie Doyle has ever met has totally changed her world and opened her eyes to desire. But can she stay professional with the sexy Irish billionaire or will she lose it all and give into the way his amber eyes seem to make her body burn with hunger.

Damian Fitzgerald wants Julie Doyle in his bed. It’s that simple. A job offer, a huge advance, and anything else she might desire are prices he’s willing to pay but something about the vulnerable young woman speaks to something he long thought dead, his heart. But Damian prides himself on self control and he knows that out of all the things she might ask for, his heart is the one thing she will never have.

Welcome to Embracing Romance, Eva! Do I prefer an oh so proper duke or a naughty rogue? I adore a naughty rogue, but I also love a proper duke made naughty by a woman he can’t resist.

    • Eva Devon

Thank you Sandra!! It’s so much fun being here! And, I like the way you think!

Welcome Eva! I’m pretty excited for sthese new releases. And of course you know I’ll go for those naughty rogues. They are oh so fun to play with but then since I like fun, I like messing around with proper Dukes too, just to unravel and nerve them. =)

    • Eva Devon

      Hi Ki Pha!

It’s great to see you! LOL. I love how you like to mess with a duke. You’ve got tough nerves and rogues are rather lovely.

      HI Maggi!

Thank you. It was SO fun to write. I had no idea I could write contemporary and then it just flowed. 😀 I hope you like it!

Hi Eva! I’m a naughty rogue kind of a gal, for sure. And how’s life with the little one? He must be around a year old now? Hope he’s giving you lots of hugs and smiles!

  4. Eva Devon

    Hi Alyssa!

He is One in 2 weeks!!!! He is the most wonderful thing! And he is so amazing with all his discoveries. Snuggles are the best.

And yay for a naught rogue!

    Hi Eva,

Thanks for being on ER.com. My mom and grandma fed my romances fixes with Barbara Cartland and the sweet-and-sometimes sexy Harlequins. Then as a teen I started to dig into the hotter stuff! I like seeing the different facets of a writer with your Maire Clairemont and Eva Devon sides. Congratulations on your new books. I’m curious about writing contemporary romance with historical under Eva Devon. Will you keep doing that? Or create a new pseudonym? I wish you the best!

    • Eva Devon

Thank you! I’ve never read Barbara Cartland but I LOVE the movie adaptations! No new pseudonym. I like my readers being able to choose what they’d like from me.

Hi, Eva. I confess to liking naughty rogues, especially if they have a great sense of humor but are utterly ruthless when they need to be.

    • Eva Devon

Oooooh! Now, that sounds like a fabulous hero. A touch of ruthless does make a rogue irresistible, I agree!

      Thanks for stopping by!

    Hi Eva,

I prefer proper Dukes, which of course is only a facade, with a natural side of naughtiness for me and for me only, ha! It’s just that don’t like sharing hehe
I can’t wait to read Dirty Beautiful Rich! I love men with a lilt and can’t wait what to find out what you have in store for us in this story 😉
